On June 30, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed H.B. 894 into law, requiring public water systems to develop source water protection plans for unfiltered surface water supplies. The law creates a standardized format for developing, reviewing, and updating the plans as well as for reporting requirements. The law requires that water systems identify the system and source type, watershed classification, population served, susceptibility to contamination, water supply alternatives, and other information.
