H2Opportunities, a nonprofit with the goal of bringing innovative water and wastewater technologies to market, recently issued a $99,000 contract at Belle Isle Park in Detroit to Parjana Distribution LLC. The 9-ha pilot project is a test of the company’s DrainAge technology, which is an energy-passive groundwater recharge pump that injects standing water back into the ground. Read more about how it works. The project is expected to be complete next spring with a report out by Environmental Consulting and Technology Inc. expected in June. According to news sources, costs for stormwater management on the 397-ha island currently exceed $338,000. If successful, this project could save money and reduce stormwater sent to Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.
