The Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program (STEP), a multi-agency initiative led by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, evaluates products and practices to increase the implementation of sustainable technologies in Canada. The group recently released a low impact development (LID) costing tool. Data behind the tool is based on an assessment of capital and life cycle costs for seven LID practices and 17 design scenarios. STEP examined bioretention cells, permeable pavement, infiltration trenches and chambers, enhanced swales, rainwater harvesting and green roofs. STEP is accepting user feedback on its spreadsheet decision support tool. Read more.
